Cold Remedies 2015: Honey Cayenne Ginger Lemon Black Tea

C – I always know when my husband is getting sick with a cold. It’s when he starts asking for tea with honey, ginger, a pinch of cayenne and lemon in it.

It starts to scare me. He definitely doesn’t get sick like I get sick. He doesn’t get sick often. But, when he does, it lasts for a few weeks and he is extremely ill. I honestly hate it.

He never wants to take any medicine unless he really has to. He just drinks this tea until he’s better. I also sneak in a few bowls of soup and pile on the oranges until he gets better.

I see it works. The tea is warm, a bit spicy and lightly sweet. There is something about it that gets your body to react from all the wonderful flavors.

It helps with immune system building and can soothe your throat and sometimes the heat can help clear up sinuses.

Sometimes, I even drink this in the morning just to wake me up when I don’t want a cup of coffee. I love the lemon, cayenne and honey combination. It’s sweet, spicy and sour.

Instructions
  1. Bring water to a boil in a small sauce pan. Turn off heat and add tea bag, ginger, and pinch cayenne into the sauce pan. Mix well and let the tea steep for 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Remove the tea bag from the pan.
  3. Pour the mixture into tea cups.
  4. Add lemon and lemon slices. Mix well.
  5. Serve.
  6. Enjoy!

I like to add a tea bag, to make it taste more like tea than a medicine. But, if you are really sick avoid the tea bag unless it’s decaffeinated or herbal. Caffeine may make your cold worst.

If you’re sick, try drinking some of this. It’s tastes great and will make you feel warm. Enjoy!
